1) Don’t skip Any Workouts. You guys will struggle with YOGA X, but they all serve an important purpose. TOUGH IT OUT.
2) Don’t over think the diet. Follow the basic guidelines; put the effort in during the workouts, and the pounds will come off.
3) Use a heart rate monitor. There’s very little rest periods so if your heart rate gets too high, hit the pause button. (From experience I have found anything over 160 beats per minute would force me to pause. This is perfectly fine and will not affect your final results. As you progress, you will build endurance and won’t need to stop as often.) DO YOU BEST AND FORGET THE REST.
4) Use the nutritional supplements like Shakeology®, creatine, Beachbody recovery drink, and protein powder to make hassle free protein drinks.
5) Take Photo’s at Day 1, 30,60, 90. They will motivate you as you see your body making dramatic changes. The most pronounced change will be month 3, SO HANGE IN THERE!!
6) On days you feel tired, or just not in the mood, remind yourself its basically one hour a day of intense effort that will give you back that incredible physique you haven’t seen in years. ( If ever… this will be so exhilarating, it’s hard to explain in words until you experienced it)
7) The first week will be the worst. You may feel like a truck hit you as your body fights to adjust to the intense work. BUT IT WILL… Just keep pushing play every day.
8) Three days a week you will be doing a brief but tough routine called AB Ripper X (ABRX), follow your scheduled workout. If you feel wiped out, it perfectly fine to do the ABRX workout later that same day. But. NEVER skip it. It’s the armour for your mid section, and looks so sexy.
9) It’s a tough 90 days, but just take it one day at a time. If changing your body and undoing years of abuse was easy we all would look great. This is your chance to show what your made of.
10) SUPER IMPORTANT! If you haven’t worked out regularly in a long time, P90X may be too intense…..FOR NOW. BUT there is a similar program called Power 90 that anyone can handle. It’s also 90 days….also designed to be done at home, and will also give incredible results. Power 90 workout are short and less intense, making this the perfect workout to get you ready for a shot at P90X. (power 90 is Tony Horton’s original workout the eventually lead to P90X. Several of my friends, and myself have done it. Its tough but do-able and will put you in great shape!!!
FAQ
Q:I haven't worked out in awhile....can I do P90X?
A: My advice for those not in respectable shape is to order Power 90. It was the first workout by Tony Horton and led to P90X. Think of it as a less intense P90X...But make no mistake: it's TOUGH! It's also 90 days and can be done at home and will put you in shape to tackle P90X. And it too will give you shocking results! (I know...I've done both)
Q: Can these programs be done at home or do I need a gym?
A: They are designed for in-home training. All you need for Power 90 is a couple pairs of dumbells; for P90X you also need a pull-up bar. If you don't have those or don't wish to train in your house, buy a small portable DVD player (you can find them for as little as $50 or $60) and take it with you to the gym. Don't feel like people are going to look at you funny. I did it this way and it's becoming commonplace in gyms these days. P90X may be the most popular fitness program in history with way in excess of 2 MILLION courses being sold. In other words, you probably won't be the only one training this way.
Q: Do I have to follow a strict diet?
A: P90X comes with plenty of dietary advice. But it's simple, easy to follow and only involves regular store bought food. And you will eat plenty! This is not a starvation strategy.
Q: What if I get really sore. Should I rest for a day?
A: No! In fact, it may feel uncomfortable but learn to love that feeling. It's a sign you worked your muscles. You are growing them bigger and stronger. I'd be concerned if you didn't get sore. The first week will be the worst...just fight through it. (Important: please differentiate the difference between soreness and pain. Always perform all exercises in a controlled manner with strict form. Don't get all macho in an attempt to squeeze out that final rep. Use good form and the gains will come sure and steady.)
Q: What happens at the end of 90 days? Will I lose all my gains?
A: No...unless you become a couch potato and start eating garbage again! Following a brief rest for your body at day 90, just stay active. You could continue doing the workouts at a reduced rate (2-4 workouts a week)...you could put together your own workout or best yet, check our stores, for a long list of excellent programs you could try. They all work and you can pick the one that best fits your needs...whether its core conditioning, weight loss, increased strength, or even a super effective 10 minute workout...The point is, just keep the muscles working and the diet healthy and you'll retain your new body!
Q: What if I miss a day?
A: Don't panic...just pick up where you left off the next day. We all have busy lives keeping up with family and jobs so occasionally, a day gets away from us. Just don't let it happen on a regular basis. Stay committed!
Q: What if I get exhausted during a workout and can't keep up?
A: Simple...when you feel overwhelmed, simply hit pause! Rest a moment and then resume. I did it very frequently in the beginning. As time goes on, you'll discover you will need to do it less and less. The important thing is to give it your honest 100% every workout. The gains will come, even if you wear out the pause button!
Q: What if I can't do even a single push-up or pull-up?
A: This is a common question, especially from women who usually don't have the upper body strength men do. The videos will show you a modified way to do both that will make it easier to accomplish until you build enough strength to do the standard form. I've met women who couldn't do a single push-up but were doing ONE-ARMED push-ups by day 90! (As a personal note, I was a total embarrassment to manhood when it came to pull-ups. On day #1, I managed a whopping 31/2 pull-ups! Sad for a guy...On day 90, I reeled off 12 strong pull-ups! (And I have lousy genetics so don't be surprised if you exceed what I did!)
Q: Can I drink while doing P90X or Power 90?
A: Well, I wouldn't take a Jack and Coke to the gym, but let me answer it this way: drinking alcohol won't help but let's live in the real world. Many of us enjoy a social drink or two. So a couple times a week, I personally indulged but tended to avoid getting sloshed. Excessive drinking and the next morning, everything will just feel twice as hard, and god knows what dietary disaster you'll succumb to while drunk! So bottom line is...you're not going to derail your adventure as long as you keep things in perspective. My bet is, after working that hard in your daily workout, you're gonna be more interested in "chillaxin"' than getting ripped in a bar. (The only thing we want ripped is your body!)
